Did James Bond make the Skyfall in Thursley?

23rd January 2012 13:41:19

This weekend I heard a rumour that camera crews were descending on Thursley Common near Godalming, for a secretive James Bond related shoot.

Signs announcing B23 - a tag previously used to direct crew members to various London locations for the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall - had started popping up in the area.

Security on the scene were tight lipped, explaining the green walled enclosure (featuring showers, canteens and enough floodlights to aid a Premier League football match) away as an MOD exercise – overlooking the hi-vis jackets and portakabin marked ‘film and television’.

No particular set was visible on Surrey Life's visit, so expect some kind of classic Bond chase scene through a Surrey wood - blink and you’ll miss it, I would have thought.

It’s not the first time Bond has come to Surrey, of course: 2006’s Casino Royale saw Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh, double as Miami International Airport, while the Pierce Brosnan starring Golden Eye (1995) and The World is Not Enough (1999) saw 007 visit Epsom Downs Racecourse and Hankley Common respectively.

Set for release in November, Skyfall sees Daniel Craig and Surrey’s own Dame Judi Dench reprise their roles as Bond and M in the Sam Mendes directed instalment.

Welcome to my neck of the woods. Have also been down to beautiful Thursley common looking for B23, intriguing. In fact, my new blog is a fab dog walk from The Moat.
