Knitted Farnham: unravelling a woolly tale of yarnbombing
22nd February 2012 13:04:11
Things have been getting a little woolly in Farnham recently, where sporadic blooms of guerrilla knitting have sprung up on trees, lamp posts and public art.
Textile artist, Kath Hitchings has form here, too. An active guerrilla knitter, she co-ordinated the first knitted flashmob while living in Ipswich, where a large group spontaneously donned knitted hats in Waterstones.
Having moved to Upper Hale six months ago, she started a gathering of woolly creatives known as The Knitting Ne'er Do Wells, which meets at Bethel Baptist Chapel on Friday afternoons.
To promote Farnham Maltings’ latest knitting show, Unravel, which takes place on Saturday February 25 and Sunday February 26, The Knitting Ne'er Do Wells have joined up with the art undergrads of The Barn:Knitter Natter to ‘yarnbomb’ the west Surrey town.
As you can see from these pics, they’ve made quite a job of it too. If you’ve spotted their knitted work on your travels, make sure to share your photos here.

Brilliant idea, hopefully we'll see plenty more yarnbombing!
